Rosemary Kane started Ballyhenry House Bed & Breakfast in 1987, set on a 350 acre working
cereal farm in the beautiful Roe Valley. The Farm is managed by Boyd and Michael Kane,
Rosemary's sons. Following Rosemary's retirement in Spring 2007, Michael and his wife Karen continue to run the family business and offer the same warm welcome and authentic experience
enjoyed by guests who have been staying at Ballyhenry House over the past 20 years.
The house was built in 1898 and has been home to several generations of the Kane family ever
since. Michael was busy in 2006 renovating Ballyhenry House, sympathetically restoring
some of the original features such as the cornicing in the Drawing room, Dining room and
Sunroom, restoring the original woodwork, staircase and stone fireplace, and adding some
modern luxuries such as the natural marble ensuite bathrooms to each of the 4 bedrooms.
There are 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 1 family room, opening onto a veranda with
great views of the garden, orchard and the breathtaking Binevenagh Mountain range.
'The Loft' self-catering apartment was open for business 5 years ago, a lovely 1st floor 3
bedroom holiday home, originally a black stone grain store, with original beams and exposed
brickwork. The Loft is ideal for a family with a fully fitted kitchen, living and dining
area, bathroom with shower and bath, 2 double bedrooms (1 with shower and sink) and 1 twin
bedroom with sink. The Loft overlooks a beautiful private flower garden with mature trees
and natural Indian stone patio and BBQ area, leading to signed, paved farm walkways and
nature trails.
The ground floor 'Garden Apartment', was converted in 2006, below 'The Loft'. This bright
airy apartment has 2 spacious bedrooms, 1 double and 1 family room, both ensuite, with
French doors opening onto the natural stone patio and flower garden. The living/dining
area also opens onto the beautiful garden and patio area, and the kitchen is fully fitted
with all the modern conveniences. This apartment would be ideal for disabled
guests.
Guests at both the B&B and the Self-Catering apartments can benefit from the new purpose
built Laundry & Drying Room, a large fully fitted room with washing machine, tumble dryer,
ironing facilities, lines for drying wet clothes and secure storage for outdoor equipment,
including lockers and shelving.
Michael and Karen encourage families and well-behaved dogs to come and stay with us at
Ballyhenry House, and we are more than happy to give you a guided tour of the farm and
walkways, which lead down to the lovely River Roe. Michael & Boyd keep some sheep and
lambs, with lambing season between February and April each year. Harvesting begins in July
and continues right through to October-early November. Children can hop on board a tractor
or combine harvestor, supervised of course!
We are very proud of our efforts to become more Environmentally Sustainable, following the
recent addition of a Woodchip Biomass Boiler, fuelled by Short Rotation Coppice
(Willow tree), grown on the farm as an environmentally friendly fuel, replacing the old
oil-fuelled boilers.
We plan to install a 6Kw Wind Turbine in the next few months, to provide an environmentally
friendly source of electricity, to provide heat and light for the farm, farmhouse and
holiday accommodation.
We are ideally situated on the Seacoast Road:
3 miles to Limavady and the Radisson Roe Hotel, Spa and Golf complex
5 miles to the beautiful blue flag Benone Beach complex, with golf and outdoor pool and
park for kids
20 minutes drive to the stunning Downhill Beach and Mussendun Temple. Both Benone and
